How to Safely Clean & Disinfect Your Brow Tools For Healthy Brows

The Secret to Clean Tools

Tired of mysterious eyebrow breakouts or dull tools? The secret to healthy brows and flawless application starts with proper hygiene. Learning how to safely clean and disinfect your brow tools is crucial for preventing infections, acne, and ensuring your products perform their best.

Why Brow Tool Hygiene Matters

Your brow tools — from tweezers to brushes and pencils — pick up oils, dead skin cells, bacteria, and old product with every use. Without regular cleaning, these can lead to:

  • Eyebrow acne and irritation
  • Eye infections
  • Poor product performance
  • Damage to your tools

What You'll Need

  • Mild soap (like baby shampoo or gentle dish soap)
  • 70% Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol
  • Warm water
  • Clean towel or paper towels

Step-by-Step Guide: Clean & Disinfect Your Brow Tools

  • Remove Excess Product: For brushes, gently wipe off any visible product onto a paper towel. For tweezers/scissors, wipe clean.
  • Wash with Soap & Water:
    • Brushes: Wet bristles with warm (not hot) water. Apply a drop of mild soap to your palm or a cleaning mat. Gently swirl the brush in the soap until lather forms. Rinse thoroughly under running water, pointing bristles downwards, until water runs clear.
    • Tweezers/Scissors/Pencils: Wash with soap and warm water, scrubbing gently.
  • Rinse Thoroughly: Ensure all soap residue is gone from brushes and tools.
  • Disinfect:
    • Brushes: Lightly spray the bristles with 70% isopropyl alcohol.
    • Tweezers/Scissors: Spray thoroughly or wipe down with an alcohol-soaked cotton pad. You can also briefly dip metal tools into a small cup of alcohol.
    • Pencils: Sharpen them to remove the top layer, then wipe the sharpener and outer casing with alcohol.
  • Air Dry Completely: Reshape brushes and lay them flat on a clean towel or hang them upside down. Ensure all tools are completely dry before storing to prevent bacterial growth.

How Often Should You Clean Your Brow Tools?

  • Brushes/Pencils: Ideally after every 2-3 uses for brushes, or weekly for pencils.
  • Tweezers/Scissors: After each use, especially if sharing, or at least weekly.
  • Immediately: If used on someone else or if they’ve fallen on the floor.

Pro Tip

Store your clean, dry brow tools in a clean, enclosed container or a dedicated brush roll to protect them from dust and further contamination.
